Postdoctoral Position in Structural Biology 2013 UK

n opportunity is available for a postdoctoral researcher to work with Dr Andrew Carter on structural studies of the microtubule motor dynein. The project aims to characterise functionally relevant parts of the cytoplasmic dynein complex in order to understand its motility, regulation and interaction with cargos.
Requirements:
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is likely to thrive in a laboratory with a friendly and supportive atmosphere. You should have a PhD in a relevant subject and a desire to to understand dynein’s structure and function. Experience in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and/or tomography would be advantageous.
Successful applicants will be awarded a three-year Career Development Fellowship. The fellowship is a training and development position for a post-doctoral scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills.

Postdoctoral position to study Prion - 2013 USA

Postdoctoral position is available in Center for Biomedical Engineering and Technology (BioMET) and Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA. Our laboratory focuses on elucidation of mammalian prion replication mechanism. Ongoing studies include biochemical, molecular imaging, structural, cellular, neuropathological and experimental animal approaches to understand the mechanisms by which prions replicate, to elucidate molecular structure and define molecular features responsible for prion infectivity and prion strain diversity.
This position is intended for a highly motivated individual with new or recent PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, neuroscience, cell and molecular biology or related fields. Candidates with experience in one of the following areas are preferred: prions, membrane and lipid biology. Candidates are expected to have analytical skills and be proficient in oral and written communication.
To apply
Send a curriculum vitae, a letter stating research interest and contact information for three references to Dr. Ilia Baskakov, Associate professor, Email: Baskakov@umaryland.edu

Postdoctoral Fellow position in Protein Crystallography 2013 -Switzerland

The Paul Scherrer Institute, PSI, is with 1500 employees the largest research centre for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform world-class research in three main subject areas: Matter and Material; Energy and the Environment; and Human Health. By conducting fundamental and applied research, we work on long-term solutions for major challenges facing society, industry and science.

The Swiss Light Source (SLS) is one of the most advanced radiation sources worldwide. The SLS Macromolecular Crystallography Group operates two high performance undulator beam lines as well as a state-of-the-art bending magnet beamline for protein crystallography. The group is involved in several aspects of protein crystallography including the development of advanced beamline instrumentation and crystallographic methods, as well as structural biology projects in collaboration with the Biomolecular Research Group at PSI and external partners.

We are looking for a

Postdoctoral Fellow
Next Generation Detector for Protein Crystallography
Your tasks
Built on the success of PILATUS detector technology, PSI and Dectris Ltd. are developing the next generation single-photon counting detector (EIGER) featuring smaller pixel size, higher frame rate and dynamic range. The proposed project is to exploit PILATUS and EIGER detectors in protein crystallography applications:
  • Systematic data acquisition and processing optimization using PILATUS 2M/6M detectors
  • Development of fast data acquisition and processing methods with EIGER 1M detector in protein micro-crystallography
  • Commissioning of the EIGER 16M detector at a protein crystallography beamline
Your profile
You hold a PhD degree in (bio-) chemistry or physics and have several years of experience in protein crystallography. Working knowledge for data processing programs and various phasing and refinement software is a must. Experience in computer programming would be a significant advantage. If you are a good team player with fine communication skills and sense of responsibility, this position will offer a great opportunity for you to develop your research career in an exciting and highly multidisciplinary environment.

For further information please contact Dr Meitian Wang, phone +41 56 310 41 75 or Dr Clemens Schulze-Briese, phone +41 56 500 21 20.

Please submit your application online (including list of publications and addresses of referees) for the position as a Postdoctoral Fellow (index no. 6112-00).

Postdoctoral Position in Computational Structural Genomics - Singapore

We are looking for highly motivated researchers with a strong analytical and computational background and an interest in developing new algorithms for analyzing genome-scale RNA structure datasets. This work will be in collaboration withexperts developing new high-throughput approaches to probe RNA structure genome-wide [1,2] and applying it to study the contribution of RNA structure to various cellular processes.
RNA structure is believed to be fundamental to its function and is important in almost every cellular process [1]. Alterations in RNA structure has also been implicated in several diseases. However the full contribution of RNA structure in biology is still not well understood. Recent developments in genome-wide structure probing methods have resulted in an explosion of RNA structure information [2]. These provide unprecedented detail in probing the structures of most RNAs in the cell and computational approaches to mine such data are still in their infancy. This is an exciting area and analysis of this new type of RNA structure data is likely to yield novel insights into the role of RNA structure and structural alterations in gene regulation, across diverse cellular states and diseases.
