Post-doctoral Marie Curie fellowship - Neuroscience 2013

We are looking for a PhD willing to apply for a post-doctoral Marie Curie fellowship to work with us, in the Institut des Maladies Neurodégénératives (IMN) for the next 2-3 years.

The study is to compare the properties of cortico-subthalamic vs thalamo-subthalamic synapses. We will use patch clamping in brain slices and optogenetics. We already have preliminary results on the basic properties of glutamatergic synapses in the STN using electrical stimulations of the afferent fibers, and also on that of cortico-subthlamic synapses using optical stimulations of ChR2-expressing afferent fibers. The postulant will have i) to implement the transfection of the parafascicular nucleus of the thalamus using stereotaxy ii) decipher the properties of thalamo-subthalamic synapses in vitro iii) examine how subthalamic neurons integrate the synaptic messages from cortex and thalamus.

People with either experience in either in vitro electrophysiology or in vivo recordings + stereotaxy will be welcome.

Marie Curie fellowship (FP7-PEOPLE-2013-CIG) are specific in several aspects, one being that the proposal must to be jointly submitted by the applicant host organisation (i.e. team leader + lab leader + University) and the candidate. Another specificity comes from the eligibility rules.
