Neuroscience Postdoctoral Position 2013 Spain

Microglia are the most motile cells in the brain and their processes constantly survey the brain parenchyma searching for alterations of tissue homeostasis. As tissue macrophages, they coordinate in the brain inflammatory response and execute the removal of neuronal debris by phagocytosis. Inflammation is detrimental, whereas phagocytosis, which remains largely unstudied, is considered beneficial overall. We are focused on the regulation and the functional consequences of microglial phagocytosis in physiological and pathological conditions (development, adult neurogenesis, epilepsy, stroke…).

Our lab is located in the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, at the Bizkaia Science and Technology Park, near Bilbao, in the Basque Country, Spain. We are funded by Ikerbasque, the Basque Fundation for Science; the Basque Government; and the Spanish Government. Our publication record may be found at Google Scholar (http://scholar.google.es/citations?user=5B7ZBjIAAAAJ&hl=es).
