USA: Postdoctoral position in translational gene therapy and cell therapy


A Research Associate/postdoctoral position is available in translational gene therapy and cell therapy. This position is available for a scientist (PhD, MD, and/or DVM) interested in the design and use of cell based therapies to modulate immunity for a variety of disease conditions. This position will focus on the development of novel strategies to alter immunity through the use of genetically altered immune cells in the context of cancer, autoimmunity, and/or infection. The overall aim is to develop novel immune therapies, demonstrate efficacy and mechanisms of action in preclinical studies, which will lead to Phase I clinical trials in patients. The ideal candidate will have a background in gene therapy, inflammation, molecular immunity, and in vivo techniques. Experience with autoimmunity, immunotherapy, and viral transduction would be helpful. Good communication skills, leadership potential, and the ability to work in a team are essential. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

About the Job
A postdoctoral position is available at Dinis Calado's Lab at the Cancer Research UK / London Research Institute, in London, United Kingdom. The Lab performs integrative studies on immunology and cancer biology to understand how healthy cells become cancerous, using mainly B-lymphocytes as model system.

Proposed projects aim to:
• Identify and study subpopulations within healthy cells at a particularly high risk of becoming cancer cells, i.e. "cells of origin in cancer".
• Investigate the causative mutations, including the study of non-coding RNAs responsible for cancer development and progression.
• Assess the processes of evasion of cancer cells from immune control by determining the nature of the interplay between a developing cancer and the cells of the immune system.

To address these questions the Lab has in place cutting-edge genetic techniques in vivo in the mouse, and performs mouse I human inter-species comparisons to confirm and/or validate the results obtained in the mouse system.

Your profile:
We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated applicants holding, or about to obtain, a PhD degree. The applicants should possess a strong research background in molecular and cell biology, experience in cancer research will be an advantage. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in one or more of the following areas: protein biochemistry, analysis of signalling pathways, proteomic analysis including analysis of posttranslational modifications, hypoxic signalling, functional genomics or other high-throughput screening methods, epigenetics or in vivo tumor metastasis models.
 
Topic:
Our group has a long-standing interest in the role of microenvironmental factors, particularly hypoxia, hypoxia inducible factors (HIFs) and oxygen sensors of the PHD family, in the regulation of tumor progression and key hallmarks of cancer including angiogenesis, invasion, metastasis, metabolism and differentiation. Our main research interest is to understand the role of microenvironmental sensors and their downstream targets in tumor progression and metastasis.
The proposed projects will aim to dissect the intersection of oxygen sensing pathways with other cellular signalling pathways, including growth factor/RTK and Notch signalling, which are involved in cancer cell proliferation, invasion, metastasis and self-renewal.

Postdoctoral Fellow to study breast and prostate cancer research


We are in search of  junior postdoc for immediate apointment. We have different parellel projects in progress. Major research focus is on mitochondria-nuclear cross talk in cancer.  However we have also other areas interest like, higher order chromatin regulation and nano bioimaging. The lab will utilize interdisciplinary approaches to investigate the epigenetic changes and nuclear-mitochondrial cross talk in cancer. 
Candidate with previous experience in mitochondria or one of the above areas will get preference. Experience in miRNA research will be a strong plus.
Candidate should be interested in breast and prostate cancer research. The candidates are expected to perform independently and work in a collaborative environment.  We use cell and molecular biology, microscopy, flowcytometry, in vivo animal experiments as well as microarray analysis for our projects.
Our lab is located in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston.  Since Baylor is one of the premier institutes, candidates will be able work with different core facilities and well known research laboratories. Post-doctoral Fellowship in Brain tumor stem cells 2013 USA

Post-doctoral fellowship position available at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for candidate interested in brain tumor research related to the characterization of cancer stem cells/brain tumor initiating cells. The cancer stem cell hypothesis posits that a hierarchy exists in some cancers with self-renewing cancer stem cells generating progeny constituting the remainder of the tumor. The presence of highly tumorigenic cancer stem cells has been demonstrated for brain tumors including glioblastoma, the most lethal and prevalent primary malignant brain tumor in adults. Glioblastoma stem cells have been demonstrated to be radio- and chemoresistant as well as highly angiogenic, suggesting the importance of targeting these cells for patient therapies.
We seek to better understand the molecular and biological mechanisms through which brain tumor stem cells drive tumor maintenance in order to identify novel targets for cancer therapy. Applicants should have a Ph.D in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field.

Candidates must have prior experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as purification of nucleic acids, quantitative real-time PCR, and immunoblotting. Prior experience with production of lentivirus, xenograft models, measurement of DNA repair, immunofluorescence/confocal imaging and/or isolation of primary cells desired. Applicants must be willing to work with human cells and mouse models. Must have strong organizational skills and be detail oriented. Ability to work well independently and apply scientific principles to the solution of novel problems needed. Must work well as part of a team and recognize the benefits of collaboration, taking initiative, and offering constructive criticism.

In particular, we are interested in examining how the p53 pathway is regulated by microRNAs, translational regulation, and post-translational modifications. Postdoctoral Fellow in Cancer Epigenetics 2013 USA

We are seeking for independent, ambitious, and self-motivated candidates for a postdoctoral fellow position to study the epigenetic mechanisms in cancer. The main goal of our laboratory is to develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for glioma and other brain cancers.
Responsibility:
On the basis of our prior studies, the candidate will lead projects focused on the BET bromodomain proteins and other epigenetic regulators in glioma. The project will apply molecular, cellular, and bioinformatics tools as well as animal models to develop new epigenetic therapy and design rational drug combinations. Biology Postdoctoral positions - Development of Cancer Therapeutics 2013 at USA

Advanced Fluorescence Microscopy for the Development of Cancer Therapeutics

Postdoctoral Position in Functional Cancer Proteomics 2013 USA

A postdoctoral research position in functional cancer proteomics is available in the laboratory of Alex Kentsis at the Sloan-Kettering Institute,Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. We carry out research in pediatric oncology and cancer biology, and our current work is focused on the phenomenon of cellular plasticity, as it relates both to the fundamental mechanisms of cancer pathogenesis and emerging rational therapies.
In particular, we are studying the biology of refractory leukemias and pediatric renal tumors, and we are interested in understanding the principles of dysorganization of their genomes and proteomes, and determining the molecular mechanisms of response and adaptation of tumor cells to targeted therapies.
To answer these questions, we are developing new approaches, based on functional genomics and mass spectrometry proteomics, to decipher the mechanisms of genomic plasticity and adaptive signaling.
This post-doctoral research position will leverage an integrated team of researchers using functional genomics and proteomics, dedicated multi-dimensional nanoscale liquid chromatographs and high-resolution mass spectrometers, and dynamic intellectual environment of the SKI. An ideal candidate is a PhD graduate with experience in mass spectrometry and analytical chemistry, who is interested in developing a research programme in functional cancer proteomics. Postdoctoral Position in Brain Tumor Research 2013 USA

Research lab in the Brain Tumor Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking individuals at the postdoctoral level to join an effort dedicated to understanding the human immune response to brain tumors and examining novel immunotherapies in preclinical models. Cancer Epigenetics Postdoctoral Position 2013 USA

We are currently recruiting PhD graduates for postdoctoral positions in cancer epigenetics. Join this unique opportunity to explore chromatin biology and cancer pathways in a translational environment. We have built a strong inter-disciplinary team focused on chromatin therapeutics with expertise in chromatin and cancer biology, bioinformatics, structural biology, and translational medicine. Qualified applicants will have a strong background in oncology and/or chromatin biology, can work collaboratively, and have a track record of publication.

Apply for Postdoctoral Fellow in Tumor Immunology 2013 USA

The Lymphoma Immunotherapy Program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow available in the laboratory of Dr. Joshua Brody, Director.  The position will entail a wide variety of moderately complex responsibilties including  designing protocols and carrying out experiments, interpreting results, and preparing figures to convey analyses for meetings and publication.  Modalities include performing cellular and molecular immunology techniques such as Flow Cytometry, ELISA, Luminex, and studies with animals as well as primary patient specimens.   The lab focuses on basic and applied tumor immunology (particularly in lymphoma, melanoma, and ovarian adenocarcinoma).  Other areas of interest include: bioinformatic-based collaborations tracking T-cell responses using high-throughput sequencing of the entire TCRbV repertoire and studies of small-molecule inhibitors of lymphocyte signal transduction, e.g. PI3K, mTOR, btk.  Our lab has the rare opportunity to both perform correlative studies on primary patient tumor samples from early phase clinical trials and to continually develop advancements in those trials based on what is learned.  The core mission is the translation of basic science in tumor immunology into novel clinical trials, e.g.:

-PhD in Immunology, Cancer Biology, or related discipline;
-Background experience and expertise in animal studies and flow cytometry.
