USA: Postdoctoral position in translational gene therapy and cell therapy


A Research Associate/postdoctoral position is available in translational gene therapy and cell therapy. This position is available for a scientist (PhD, MD, and/or DVM) interested in the design and use of cell based therapies to modulate immunity for a variety of disease conditions. This position will focus on the development of novel strategies to alter immunity through the use of genetically altered immune cells in the context of cancer, autoimmunity, and/or infection. The overall aim is to develop novel immune therapies, demonstrate efficacy and mechanisms of action in preclinical studies, which will lead to Phase I clinical trials in patients. Avian Immunology postdoctoral research opportunity at USA


An Avian Immunology postdoctoral research opportunity is available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL) in Athens, GA. The selected applicant will participate in research on avian immunology as it relates to infection and protection against avian influenza virus.

USA: Postdoctoral scientist Position in Biomedical Sciences


The Nair lab at the Division of Biomedical Sciences, University of California Riverside is seeking a postdoctoral scientist to participate in our research on macrophage responses in immunity and inflammation. We employ murine infection models of hookworm and bacterial infection of the lung and gastrointestinal tract to investigate how macrophages are activated and what factors they secrete to regulate immunity and inflammation. The successful candidate will perform in vivo and ex vivo mouse experiments, molecular biology and cell culture, and a variety of other general laboratory experiments. The desired candidate will have research experience in mouse models of infection, immunity and macrophage activation and a successful track record of first author publications. About the Job
A postdoctoral position is available at Dinis Calado's Lab at the Cancer Research UK / London Research Institute, in London, United Kingdom. The Lab performs integrative studies on immunology and cancer biology to understand how healthy cells become cancerous, using mainly B-lymphocytes as model system.

Proposed projects aim to:
• Identify and study subpopulations within healthy cells at a particularly high risk of becoming cancer cells, i.e. "cells of origin in cancer".
• Investigate the causative mutations, including the study of non-coding RNAs responsible for cancer development and progression.
• Assess the processes of evasion of cancer cells from immune control by determining the nature of the interplay between a developing cancer and the cells of the immune system.

To address these questions the Lab has in place cutting-edge genetic techniques in vivo in the mouse, and performs mouse I human inter-species comparisons to confirm and/or validate the results obtained in the mouse system.

Postdoctoral positions to study innate immunity 2013, USA


Following postdoctoral positions available in a newly renovated immunology laboratory of Dr. Koichi S. Kobayashi to study:
1) The interaction between intestinal microbiota and the mucosal immune system
2) The role of TLR and NLR proteins in the host-pathogen interaction
3) Inflammatory diseases caused by dysregulated NLR function
4) Mechanism of MHC gene activation by NLR protein family
using molecular biology, proteomics and mouse genetics approaches.
The laboratory studies on the innate immunity, with particular emphasis on the function of NLR family proteins. The laboratory discovered the function of Nod2, a Crohn’s disease-associated NLR protein, for the intestinal mucosal immune system (Science 307, 731 (2005), Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 106, 15813 (2010)), and succeeded in the development of ileal Crohn’s disease animal model (Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 107, 14739 (2010)). The laboratory also found another NLR member, NLRC5 is a transcriptional activator of MHC class I genes (CITA), which is a counterpart of CIITA, a master regulator of MHC class II gene (Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 107, 13794 (2010)). The laboratory is studying on the mechanism of NLRC5-mediated MHC class I gene regulation (Biochem Biophys Res Commun 418, 786 (2012), J Immunol 188, 4951(2012)) and its impact on in vivo immune system using knock out mice (J Immunol 189, 516 (2012)). This is a rapidly progressing research area. NIH-funded postdoctoral position immunobiology 2013 USA


An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available immediately to study the immunobiology of donor-specific negative vaccination in murine models islet cell and vascularized organ transplantation in the laboratory of Dr. Xunrong Luo at the Comprehensive Transplant Center of Northwestern University. The long-term objective of this project is the translational application of a tolerogenic negative vaccination protocol in large animal models and eventually in clinical settings of islet cell and solid organ transplantation. The successful candidate will closely interact with the PI as well as with co-PIs Dr. Steve Miller at Northwestern University and Dr. Bernhard Hering at University of Minnesota to investigate the mechanisms of preemptive negative vaccination on tolerizing anti-donor cellular and humoral immunity, and therapeutic strategies particularly in setting of prior sensitization. He/she will utilize an array of techniques (in vivo mouse models of transplantation, tissue culture, cell characterization by FACS, ELISPOTs, Luminex, transcriptome analysis, etc.) to determine the nature and magnitude of anti-donor responses. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to apply for external fellowships from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Society of Transplantation, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and/or the American Society of Nephrology. This position will provide an opportunity to build a novel set of skills and expertise that prepare the candidate for his/her independent research career.

Requirements: Successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual preferably with a strong background in cellular immunology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D., and preferably with no more than 5 year of postdoctoral experience. Applicant should be proficient in communication in English.
