Post-Doctoral Position in Biomedical Engineering


The Whiting School of Engineering, Divisions of Cardiac Surgery and of Cardiology at the Johns Hopkins University are seeking a candidate for postdoctoral fellowship to conduct collaborative research aimed at the development of novel cardiac support systems. We seek candidates with expertise in design of biomedical devices, and/or systems operating at the interface between engineering and physiology. Early phases of the project involve development of concepts through interactions with medical and engineering faculty members with diverse background and expertise. The candidate is also expected to assist in project management, including coordination among academic and administrative personnel, as well as planning of technical meetings. Consequently, the candidate must also possess strong organizational skills and be able to successfully navigate a complex diverse environment.

Tissue Engineering Postdoctoral Position 2013 USA

A postdoctoral position in bone and cartilage tissue engineering is available at UCLA School of Dentistry/Bioengineering. This NIH-funded project will involve the development of injectable hydrogels and nanocarrier systems for delivery of precursor cells and therapeutic molecules for osteochondral tissue engineering applications. Fellows are expected to interact with an interdisciplinary team of investigators, with experts in biomedical engineering, polymer chemistry, molecular, cell and developmental biology, orthopedic surgery, animal study and transplantation, etc.

Qualifications:

Postdoctoral Associate position in soft tissue biomechanics 2013 USA

Postdoctoral Positions in Antibody Engineering for the Development of Cancer Therapeutics

Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Drs. E. Sally Ward and Raimund J. Ober at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. These positions are supported by recently acquired funds from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (www.cprit.state.tx.us). Post-doctoral appointees will work on projects involving the use of antibody engineering approaches to develop therapeutics for cancer that target growth factor receptors and exposed phosphatidylserine (PS). These studies will use a combination of in vitro and in vivo studies in mice to analyze therapeutic efficacy.

These projects have direct relevance to the rapidly expanding use of antibodies in the biopharma industry.

HHMI's Janelia Farm Research Campus, a unique, world-class research community near Washington, D.C., is dedicated to understanding the function of neural circuits and developing synergistic imaging technology. Our highly collaborative structure is designed to support interdisciplinary work in small lab groups. The Hantman Lab is looking for highly motivated individuals to explore the role of the interactions of the cortex and the cerebellum in sensory processing and motor control.

Antibody discovery/ engineering Postdoctoral position 2013 - United States

Postdoctoral position at UH to isolate and characterize antibodies from primary B cells in collaboration with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, funded by the NIH. Cancer drug delivery Postodoctoral Position 2013 - United States

One postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Gill Laboratory in the field of cancer drug delivery. Gill laboratory is located at Texas Tech University in the Department of Chemical Engineering. The candidate should be highly motivated and should have experience in cancer research. Experience with head and neck tumors is preferred. Prior experience in inducing orthotopic tumors, performing drug efficacy studies using an animal model, and invivo imaging of tumors is desirable. Postdoctoral fellowship in Biomedical Engineering 2013 - US

A postdoctoral fellow is sought to work on a project that will examine the application of a novel multifunctional immunomodulatory biomaterial strategy to support islet graft survival and function. This is a multidisciplinary project involving biomaterials, islet transplantation for diabetes treatment and analysis of immune outcomes. The goal of this project is to assess the ability of a MIS to deliver signals temporally to modulate dendritic cell (DC) phenotype in vivo with a benefit on the immune situation. Specifically here, the objective is to support acceptance of islet allografts. The MIS has been developed in the Babensee laboratory for the sequential, timed delivery of immunomodulators to induce derivation of tolerogenic DCs which with concomitant exposure to tolerizing antigen of the tissue to be transplanted, to support antigen-specific graft acceptance. The MIS is based on a cryogel scaffold of DC maturation-inert material viz., agarose, with entrapped differentially- crosslinked gelatin microparticles to sequentially deliver biomolecules. This project will examine the suitability of the MIS construct environment to allow autologous islet cell survival, characterize the local and systemic immune-inhibitory environment and the ability of MIS to support acceptance and function of islet allografts.

The project will develop expertise in experimental design, implantation of biomaterial scaffolds for immunomodulation and islet transplantation into mice and analysis of subsequent islet cell function/survival and immune outcomes. Specific techniques to be used include isolation and culture of islets of Langerhans from mice, implantation of MIS and islets in biomaterial constructs and analysis of islet survival (e.g. histology/immunohistochemistry for insulin, glucose levels), host tissue harvesting for flow cytometric analysis of immune cell phenotype and cytokine profiles. This project is supported by an Innovation & Leadership in Engineering Technologies and Therapies (ILET2) for Diabetes Training funded by NIH. It is collaborative research project between Dr. Julia Babensee (in BME at Georgia Tech and Emory University) and Dr. Allan Kirk (Emory Transplant Center). Dr. Andres Garcia (Georgia Tech) also provides biomaterial gel technology for islet transplantation as a collaborator. This postdoctoral fellow working on this project will do so at both the Petit Biotechnology Building at Georgia Tech and Emory Transplant Center.

Interested candidates should have as Ph.D. in bio- or biomedical engineering or a basic science (e.g., biochemistry, immunology, biology). Experience in at least some of the following techniques is preferred (but not necessary): mammalian cell culture, ELISA, flow cytometry, working with mice, Luminex, histology/immunohistochemistry. The ability to contribute productively in a multidisciplinary team environment is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Due to funding restrictions, applicants should be US citizens or permanent residents of the US.

Undertake research as a Postdoc within the project MuSIC - Modeling and SImulation of Cancer growth. This project is funded by an ERC Starting Grant.
