USA: Postdoctoral position to study hematopoietic stem cells


A postdoctoral position is available at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital to study the optimal conditions for gene-correction of hematopoietic stem cells in a mouse model of Artemis-deficient severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID-A). This project will: 1) Optimize lentiviral-mediated gene transduction in murine hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) and 2) Establish conditions to maximize engraftment of Artemis-corrected congenic HSC by opening bone marrow niches without high dose chemotherapy. The postdoc would be responsible for designing and implementing experiments for optimizing gene transduction conditions and opening marrow niches using chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy agents in a mouse model of Artemis SCID, analyzing and presenting results and preparing manuscripts for publication.
Requirements: Working with mouse models, flow cytometry and sorting, familiarity with assays of immune function is essential. Experience in gene transduction using lentiviral vectors is desirable. Applicants must have a PhD, but no more than 5 years of postdoctoral training. This position is available starting immediately and salary commensurate to experience. Postdoctoral fellow position molecular and stem cell biology 2013, USA

A postdoctoral fellow/research associate position is available in the laboratory of Michael Oertel in the Dept. of Pathology (Div. of Experimental Pathology), University of Pittsburgh. The laboratory focuses on stem cells, regeneration, and cell transplantation in the liver with the goal to develop novel strategies for therapeutic tissue replacement.

We are looking for a highly talented and motivated person to carry out research to characterize candidate donor stem/progenitor cells and investigate their repopulation potential in rodent cell transplantation models, as well as the mechanism(s) regulating liver tissue replacement.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D., should have a strong background in molecular and stem cell biology, as well as extensive knowledge in liver related research. We are looking for a successful candidate with good analytical and interpersonal skills, who should be capable to work independently. Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques, including RNA, DNA and protein isolation, PCR, and Western Blot, is required. Expertise in laser capture microscopy is preferred. Experience with cell culture, cell isolation and immunohistochemistry, and proficiency in rat models, including surgical techniques, is desired.

Post-doctoral Fellowship in Brain tumor stem cells 2013 USA

Post-doctoral fellowship position available at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for candidate interested in brain tumor research related to the characterization of cancer stem cells/brain tumor initiating cells. The cancer stem cell hypothesis posits that a hierarchy exists in some cancers with self-renewing cancer stem cells generating progeny constituting the remainder of the tumor. The presence of highly tumorigenic cancer stem cells has been demonstrated for brain tumors including glioblastoma, the most lethal and prevalent primary malignant brain tumor in adults. Glioblastoma stem cells have been demonstrated to be radio- and chemoresistant as well as highly angiogenic, suggesting the importance of targeting these cells for patient therapies.
We seek to better understand the molecular and biological mechanisms through which brain tumor stem cells drive tumor maintenance in order to identify novel targets for cancer therapy. Applicants should have a Ph.D in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field.

Candidates must have prior experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as purification of nucleic acids, quantitative real-time PCR, and immunoblotting. Prior experience with production of lentivirus, xenograft models, measurement of DNA repair, immunofluorescence/confocal imaging and/or isolation of primary cells desired. Applicants must be willing to work with human cells and mouse models. Must have strong organizational skills and be detail oriented. Ability to work well independently and apply scientific principles to the solution of novel problems needed. Must work well as part of a team and recognize the benefits of collaboration, taking initiative, and offering constructive criticism.

Chosen candidates will be expected to work with undergraduates and technicians in the laboratory to accomplish experimental goals. Postdoctoral Research Scientist position Regenerative Stem Cell Research 2013 - UK

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Post-doctoral Research Scientist working between Oxford NHS Blood and Transplant and the University of Oxford and who will work as part of a team. The successful candidate will conduct a research project aimed at understanding the microenvironmental influences on blood vessel formation, particularly as they relate to mesenchymal stem/stromal cells. The ultimate aim of this project will be to develop new methods for robustly defining and expanding mesenchymal and endothelial stem/progenitor cells so that they can be used therapeutically.
The specific project involves the isolation using magnetic beads or flow cytometry and culture of mesenchymal and endothelial stem/progenitor cell subsets, assessment of homing potential using novel chemotaxis assays based on timelapse microscopy, expansion studies, genetic manipulation and gene, proteomic or cell signalling analyses.

Requirements: 

The post would be suitable for a recent postdoctoral scientist with relevant molecular and cell biology experience in the appropriate area of research. Expertise in cell isolation, culture, identification using flow cytometry and immunohstochemistry, manipulation, expansion gene or proteome analyses and tracking of cells in in vitro model systems would be an advantage. The post is available immediately until September 30th 2015. Major scientific projects of the laboratory include:

Cell biology postdoctoral position - 2013 United States

A postdoctoral position is available in our lab at the Stem Cell Institute, University of Minnesota. We have recently discovered that a fusion protein between the transactivation domain of the MyoD protein and the pluripotency factor Oct4 can drastically increase the efficiency of making iPS cells (Stem Cells, 2011, 29:1349; PLoS ONE, 2012, 7: e34149; PLoS ONE, 2012, 7: e39022). Developing this study, we are now studying the roles of long noncoding RNAs in pluripotency of ES cells and iPS cells, as well as in oncogenesis using RNA-ChIP and RNA-seq. The recently developed TAL effector technology will also be incorporated. Strong interest or experience in bioinformatics (microarray, RNA-seq and various gene analysis programs) is preferred, in addition to the standard cell culture and molecular biology techniques. Understanding of stem cell biology is also preferred.

Postdoc position in stem cell biology - 2013 United States

The Center for Pediatric Nanomedicine, a research center sponsored by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia Tech, and Emory University, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on human pluripotent stem cells (website). Postdoctoral positionto study transcriptional and epigenetic regulation - USA

A postdoctoral position is available to study transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of vertebrate neural development in the laboratory of Kristen L. Kroll at Washington University School of Medicine. We are defining how cells of the early embryo and embryonic stem cells control neural fate acquisition, neural stem and precursor cell maintenance, and neuronal differentiation. We are using genome-wide approaches to define the transcriptional regulatory networks that control neural development and are characterizing how epigenetic regulation modulates these neural gene regulatory networks. We are also assessing how dysregulation of epigenetic activities contributes to malignancy in medulloblastoma and glioblastoma. Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics and Stem Cell Biology - USA

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to study stem cell biology using Systems Biology approaches in the Department of Neurosurgery, and Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Our laboratory combines stem cell biology and systems-based approaches involving functional genomics and next-generation sequencing technologies including RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq and functional tests to unravel gene transcription and regulatory mechanisms governing neural differentiation. We are currently pursuing basic and translational research in neural repair and neuroprotection in regenerative medicine. The other area of our research interest lies in the studies of the regulatory networks of hematopoietic precursor cell self-renewal and differentiation.

The Institute for Clinical Neurobiology seeks a postdoctoral fellow for expanding our research on iPS cell technologies to generate motoneurons and other types of neurons for analysis of molecular pathomechanisms of neuro- degeneration. The institute has long-standing expertise in characterization of disease mechanisms in motoneuron disease, using mouse and cell culture models. The aim of our work is to validate new mouse- and patient-derived iPS cells in state-of-art cell culture models to study defects in neurotrophin signaling pathways and signaling pathways for axon stabilization and maintenance. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with good background in stem cell biology. The Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Research position in the laboratory of Dr. Joseph DeSimone. Our research focus is on the epigenetic regulation of gene expression during hematopoietic stem cell differentiation. Our aim is to increase the understanding of hemoglobin switching with the goal of developing innovative hemoglobinopathies therapies.
We seek highly qualified, dedicated and highly motivated individuals with a commitment to research excellence and with experience in ChIP and bisulfate sequence analysis and hematopoietic progenitor cell purification from primary bone marrow cells.
