Post-doctoral position in Neuroscience 2013, Japan

The International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (IIIS), University of Tsukuba, Japan, is seeking several candidates for postdoctoral research fellowships to our research program targeting the biology of sleep. This is an inherently interdisciplinary field in terms of methodology, spanning molecular genetics, cellular biology, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, medicinal chemistry, and clinical and social medicine.

Successful candidates will join one of our laboratories (http://wpi-iiis.tsukuba.ac.jp/position/laboratories.html) in the newly established IIIS, founded in December 2012, as one of nine government-supported (MEXT) research institutions under the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI). The ultimate research goal of IIIS is to elucidate the fundamental mechanism of sleep and wakefulness, to develop strategies to regulate sleep, and to contribute to the enhancement of world health through combatting sleep disorders and associated diseases.

All applicants must have obtained a Ph.D. degree. We offer a considerable degree of work autonomy, and access to a highly international research environment with new state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Candidates are encouraged to have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: Neuroscience, Molecular Genetics, Behavioral Science, Cell Biology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Protein Biochemistry, Medicinal and Organic Chemistry, Psychiatry, and Social and Sleep Medicine.

IIIS is located in Tsukuba Science City, within the greater Tokyo metropolitan area. In this dynamic, yet green setting, IIIS offers postdoctoral fellows a relaxing place for research alongside globally prominent scientists with convenient access to an urban environment.

Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, bibliography, statement of research interests and a list of references in electronic format to iiis-career@un.tsukuba.ac.jp. Application materials are available at: http://wpi-iiis.tsukuba.ac.jp/position/
