Post-Doctoral Fellow position molecular virology 2013, USA

The J. Craig Venter Institute (“JCVI”), a not-for-profit research institute dedicated to the advancement of the science of genomics is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join Dr. David Wentworth’s team in the Virology Group at our Rockville, MD location. The major responsibilities of this position will include influenza virus genomics/phylogeny and the development of methods to amplify and analyze the genome of BSL3/4 viral pathogens. Other responsibilities will include designing and executing experiments, analysis of experimental results/data, and training other team members. As a member of a scientific team Post-Doctoral Fellows are also expected to help develop new scientific projects by assisting with the preparation of proposals and to publish the results of their work in peer-reviewed journals.

Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in virology and experience with influenza viruses, and molecular virology including reverse genetics approaches. Preference will be given to candidates that have experience influenza virus replication, pathogenesis and/or vaccine development.
