NIH Funded Molecular Biology Postdoctoral position 2013 - USA

A postdoctoral position is available to investigate the role and regulation of stress responses in bacteria, and how they are integrated into cellular regulatory networks. This work has important implication for pathogenesis, our global understanding of gene regulation in bacteria, and could potentially lead to antibiotic development. The specific focus of the research is on the cell envelope stress response governed by the conserved extracytoplasmic function (ECF) sigma factor,  σE. A major goal of the work is to determine the mechanism(s) by which activity of σE is controlled by the global regulator, ppGpp, thereby coordinating cell envelope and cytoplasmic responses to starvation. Experience with biochemistry, molecular biology, bacterial genetics, and bacterial physiology is desirable. NIH funding is available for this position.
