Biologist Postdoctoral Fellow to study plant cell wall, United States

The focus of this postdoctoral position is to perform research to better understand how plant cell walls are synthesized. This position works under the direction of the Director of the Structural Biology department at the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI). Primary duties and responsibilities will include the development and implementation of methods for the cloning, expression and purification of proteins involved in plant cell wall synthesis, in particular glycosyl transferases (GTs). As a postdoctoral associate you will develop approaches to the expression of plant cell wall GTs in heterologous systems, including insect cells. In collaboration with other researchers in the Structural Biology Department X-ray crystallography will be used to determine the three-dimensional structures of these enzymes. In collaboration with the JBEI Feedstocks Division these enzymes will be biochemically characterized. This appointment provides the opportunity to learn and/or further develop crystallographic skills.
