Research Assistant (Postdoctoral) Biochemical sciences at United Kingdom

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant (postdoctoral) to work on a project funded by the Medical Research Council, in the Division of Biomedical Science at St. George’s, University of London. The post will be available for a fixed term period of 3 years working in the laboratory of Dr Tanya Shaw.

This collaborative project with GlaxoSmithKline will investigate wound-associated scarring/fibrosis in skin. Using a combination of in vitro and in vivo models, and genetic and pharmacological approaches, we aim to characterize the functions of specific epigenetic modifying enzymes in normal and keloid scar formation, and to interrogate the therapeutic value and feasibility of their inhibition.

You will be expected to work semi-independently and play an active role in experimental planning, data analysis and manuscript preparation. In addition, you will be expected, as an active team member of the research group, to contribute to the development of research ideas directed towards improving our basic understanding of tissue repair and regeneration.

You will been given the opportunity to gain supervisory experience by being involved in the day to day supervision of BSc and MRes project students within the group.

A PhD in biological or biochemical sciences is essential and you would ideally have experience of working with primary cell cultures and in vivo experimental models.
