Post Doctoral Scientist position Biological Science, UK

Based at Pirbright, you will be employed on a recently funded BBSRC sLOLA project (The Molecular Biology of FMDV Replication: Towards New Methods of FMDV Disease Control). In collaboration with top UK universities (St Andrews, Dundee, Edinburgh and Leeds), we will use FMDV sequence analysis, codon-pair bias analysis, siRNA screens, and state-ofthe-art quantitative proteomics (including SILAC) to improve our understanding of FMDV replication with the specific target of identifying host-factors that influence the outcome of infection (acute and persistent infections). This information will be used to improve the effectiveness and safety of FMDV vaccines.

Reporting directly to the Head of Molecular Characterisation and Diagnostics Group, the post holder will undertake sequencing studies to understand the extent of natural sequence variability for FMD virus and undertake systematic studies to test the importance of specific genomic features using reserve genetics and siRNA approaches.
