Postdoctoral Fellow position Molecular Biology / Biochemistry at Bangor University

Purpose of the Job
The post is part of a team working in the area of genome stability mediated by DNA repair mechanisms. The project is lab based and includes molecular biological, genetic and biochemical techniques.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Taking responsibility for the key aspects of the research project;
  • Gathering and analysis of data relating to the research aims of the project and actively supporting the principal investigator in developing new techniques;
  • Communicating research related issues to the group leader, Dr Oliver Fleck;
  • Actively contributing to the organisation and infrastructure of the Institute;
  • Assisting and training students of the group in lab techniques where appropriate;
  • Contributing towards the dissemination of research outputs;
  • Presenting results on scientific meetings and internal group meetings;
  • Carrying out additional duties related to the research of the group as required.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in performance review and developmental activities;

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
Essential
  • A PhD in a relevant subject in molecular biology or biochemistry;
  • Research background in relevant area.
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
  • Experience in research, including design of experiments, data collection and analysis, and report writing;
  • The ability to undertake quantitative analysis /strong research method and skill analysis.
Desirable
  • Proven track record of publications in quality journals;
  • Proven track record of conference presentations.
Skills/Abilities
Essential
  • Demonstrate good and effective communication (oral and written) skills;
  • Demonstrate good analytical skills, and present results appropriately;
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise work load and work to deadlines;
  • Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team;
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
Desirable
  • Ability to publish scientific data;
  • Demonstrate proven project management skills;
  • Demonstrate good computer skills, including standard software programs;
