Postdoctoral Position in Wheat Rust Epidemiology - April 2013, Denmark

The successful candidate will be part of a team working on host-pathogen interactions and experimental epidemiology of rust fungi infecting cereals and grasses. The candidate will be responsible for investigating interactions between Puccinia graminis and Puccinia striiformis, respectively, and their cereal hosts. Interactions involving genetic host resistance and pathogen virulence/avirulence will be a major focus area. Studies will involve greenhouse experiments as well as field experiments. Our group has several nationally and internationally focused projects within population biology of rust fungi. We use molecular and virulence markers for studying genetic diversity and evolutionary processes and develop molecular markers for detection, diagnosis and characterisation of plant pathogenic fungi. You will be part of the ‘Global Rust Reference Center’ (GRRC), consisting of 10-12 scientists, technicians and PhD students. Since we wish to expand current international activities the right candidate will get the opportunity to develop the position beyond the first 2 years.

Qualifications

  •     Relevant university degree or equivalent;
  •     PhD degree within plant disease epidemiology and/or pathogen population biology;
  •     Research experience in rust fungi infecting cereals, preferably P. striiformis/P. graminis;
  •     Documented experience in host-pathogen interaction studies under field or greenhouse conditions;
  •     Experience in international research collaboration and networking;
  •     Interest and skills in scientific communication.
