Postdoc position in Genetic Cardiology 2013 USA

The Genetic Cardiology Laboratory at the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has availability for postdoctoral researchers interested in studying the genetics and pathogenesis of inherited and acquired cardiac disorders including cardiomyopathies/heart failure, arrhythmia and congenital heart disorders. The research combines genetic studies, cell culture and animal model studies, as well as molecular biochemical and physiologic studies. Recently, the lab has created several animal (mouse) models of human cardiomyopathy. Non-surgical, including different stress tests, and surgical animal procedures, such as implanting pumps, telemetry adapters and pressure gradient experiments will be expected. The selected candidates will be actively involved in all aspects of these studies. In addition, screening of human DNA samples using direct and NEXGEN sequencing approaches will be routine. Thus, this position requires a scientist with PhD and/or PhD/MD degrees with previous extensive experience in cell culture, animal non-surgical and surgical procedures, and/or molecular biology techniques.
The Heart Institute values a research environment with an emphasis on creativity, innovative work and personal ethic and collaboration. We offer excellent training prospects and opportunities to interact with other laboratories and core facilities, including the sequencing center, bioinformatics, DNA microarray analysis, genomic analysis, and mouse facilities.

Requirements (any combination):
Ph.D. and/or M.D., Ph.D. degree (s)
Experience with tissue cell culture, gene cloning, general immunological and/or protein chemistry techniques
Knowledge/ experience in cell signaling and prior experience working with in vivo models is desirable
Knowledge/ experience in gene discovery techniques is desirable
Knowledge/ experience in cardiac physiology and/or ion channel biophysics is desirable
Fluency and good writing skills in English is required as fellow will be expected to write manuscripts and grant applications

Applicants who wish to join our laboratory are requested to send by mail or by e-mail a CV, a brief statement of research interests and the names of three references to:
