Biochemistry Postdoctoral position at Germany

The University of Lübeck is a modern Life-Science University with seven academic programs including Medicine, Informatics, Medical Informatics, Molecular Life Science, Infection Biology, Mathematics in Medicine and Life Science and Medical Engineering.

Within the medical section, the Institute for Systemic Inflammation Research (ISEF), (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Jörg Köhl), invites the application from a highly motivated candidate for a:

Postdoctoral position

The initial appointment will be for 2 years starting September 1, 2013. Continued employment following the fixed term is possible.

The laboratory focuses on the role of the complement system in acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the lung, the skin and the gastrointestinal tract. Inflammatory bowel disease is often associated with the activation of the complement system and the generation of the anaphylatoxins (AT) C3a and C5a. In different experimental models, we have shown that ATs function not only as mediators but also as important regulators of systemic inflammation (e.g. Mucosal Immunol. 2013 6:807; Nat. Med. 2012 18:1401). This project aims at delineating the molecular mechanisms underlying AT-driven regulation of mucosal tolerance and induction of inflammatory bowel disease. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Position requirements include a doctoral degree (Dr. rer. nat. / PhD) in biology, biochemistry or equivalent. A prerequisite for the position is experience in mouse models of inflammation. Preference will be given to candidates experienced in isolation and purification of immune cells (from the intestine) and their phenotypic characterization by flow cytometry. Due to the strong international ties of the laboratory (www.irtg1911.uni-luebeck.de), solid command of the English language is essential.

The position will be paid according to the regulations of the civil service collective wage agreement (TV-L13 100%). Applications of women are strongly encouraged. Handicapped candidates with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.

Please submit your application including informative documents (motivation letter, CV, list of publications and 2 references) by July 12, 2013 to:
