Postdoc position organic chemistry Germany 2013

Postdoc (m/f)

Code-No.: 2013/B 12
The place of employment is Teltow (Berlin, Germany).

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials and coastal research. You can find more information at www.hzg.de.

The Institute of Biomaterial Science in Teltow of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a Postdoc (m/f) in Material Sciences, focussing on polyester- and polydepsipeptide-based matrices, their synthesis and exploration of in vitro and in vivo degradation mechanisms. This is initially a 2-years fixed-term contract.

You will be strengthening our research activities in the analysis of the in vivo behaviour of polymeric biomaterials in an interdisciplinary and interinstitutional research network. You will be responsible for the synthesis of polyester-/depsipeptide-based multiblock copolymers. You will study polymer morphology, polymer architecture including polymer sequence structure of polymer systems as prepared, during degradation in vitro, and as explants from in vivo studies (GPC, mass spectrometry, NMR, etc.) as well as degradation products. In addition you will explore the applicability of a robotic synthesis platform for the synthesis of these polymer systems and will take care about the biological evaluation of the materials. You will be responsible for the benchwork of your own projects and will furthermore actively participate in the publication of the results and preparation of patent applications.

You have a PhD in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, or material science with practical experience in the synthesis of monomers and their polymerization. Applicants with a strong interest in translational research are especially welcome. You will work in an interdisciplinary team with chemists, material engineers, biologists, pharmaceutical scientists, immunologists, and scientists of other disciplines in the field of regenerative medicine. You are speaking English fluently and can provide documentation of your completed studies and possibly additional or international project work.

Informal enquiries can be directed to marc.behl@hzg.de.

We offer an appropriate salary related to TV-AVH as well as the usual public sector social benefits. The advancement of equality at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht goes without saying; in particular, we are striving to increase the percentage of women in the science sector. Severely disabled persons with equal qualifications will be considered preferentially within the framework of legal requirements.

Please send your application indicating job offer code-no. 2013/B 12 including your CV, description of your scientific expertise, publication list, copies of credentials (B.Sc., M.Sc., PhD) including grades, and names and addresses of three academic referees preferably by e-mail to personal.teltow@hzg.de or to Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Institut für Biomaterialforschung, Kantstraße 55, 14513 Teltow, Germany. For details of the institute, please visit the website at http://biomaterials.hzg.de.

Closing date for applications is July 29th 2013.
